Mural at Mestalla to pay tribute to those affected by COVID-19
Mestalla spent more than three months closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from the time Valencia CF played their last Champions League game on March 10th until LaLiga returned on June 12th. It was the longest period of inactivity for the stadium since the Spanish Civil War, an indication of the exceptional circumstances that have been felt the world over.
In remembrance, as part of the almost 100-year history of Mestalla, a mural will be erected as a tribute to those affected by COVID-19, located next to that marking the 1957 flood that the city of Valencia suffered.
Football fans young and old, health professionals, essential services professionals, volunteers and more. The stories from an almost unprecedented period in modern history will be commemorated at the stadium, in a spot that will feature on the Mestalla Forever Tour.
Always standing alongside the Valencian people, Valencia CF and majority shareholder, Peter Lim, have increased the number of initiatives to support the region during the COVID-19 pandemic under the slogan 'AMUNT World.' Among other projects, they converted Mestalla into a distribution centre to hand out non-perishable food among hundreds of Valencian families in need, as well as donating specific materials to the Valencian Government for healthcare personnel in hospitals, lending apartments in Valencia for use by healthcare personnel, donating sportswear to the Municipal Sports Foundation for more than a hundred homeless people, providing several hundred VCF-PUMA packs for hospitals and making a financial donation to Casa Caridad Valencia.
The Mestalla Forever Tour reopens from Wednesday, July 22nd.
